The village

Howville, Hillsburg, Hillsburgh

Settled in 1820–21 and first called Howville, the village was renamed for settler Nazareth Hill and gained its final “h” when it became a police village in 1899. It joined the Town of Erin in 1998 and is home to the Town Hall on Trafalgar Road.

Daily life centres on Trafalgar Road: Hillsburgh Foodland (with LCBO and Beer Store agency counters), Jess For You Cafe in the Old Exchange Hotel, Butcher Furniture, the Hillsburgh library branch on Station Street, the Hillsburgh Community Centre arena and the Century Church Theatre. The Elora Cataract Trailway runs right through the village, with trail parking at 11 Station St.

Out in the hills: Erin Hill Acres’ lavender and pumpkin fields, Everdale’s teaching farm and Elliott Tree Farm, a Christmas-tree farm that doubles as a working film location.
